Dr. Mary Smith is a Visiting Senior Research Specialist with the UIC Behavioral Health Crisis Hub at the Jane Adams Center for Social Policy and Research. She serves as a Senior Policy Analyst and researcher at the Center.
Biography:
Dr. Smith held the position of Associate Director of Decision Support, Evaluation and Services Research for the Illinois Department of Human Services, Division of Mental Health (IDHS-DMH) from 2008 to 2016. During her tenure, she held the role of principal investigator for a number of Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) Center for Mental Health Services (CMHS) grants. Dr. Smith held other Executive positions with the IDHS-DMH prior to 2008, including Chief of the Bureau of Evaluation and System Analysis, Chief of Strategic Planning, and Chief of the Bureau of Human Resource Development and Planning. Before joining IDHS-DMH, Dr. Smith held several Executive positions with the Ravenswood Hospital Community Mental Health Center in Chicago, including Center Administrator. Dr. Smith has served on a number of national and Illinois statewide workgroups and she has provided consultation on a variety of topics at the local, state, and national level. Most recently, she has served as a senior consultant for the National Association of State Mental Health Program Directors Research Institute (NRI).
